Everything You Need to Know About End Caps from Tandemloc

Tandemloc end caps

Let's face it, moving heavy steel, concrete sections, or equipment modules is all about smart lifting. It’s about having gear you can trust when tons of hefty material are suspended above your crew. Tandemloc's end cap spreader systems are setting new standards for heavy lift operations, with customizable lengths, versatile options for pipe materials, and the help of our very own ‘End Cap App’ to select the perfect one for you.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What Are End Caps?

End caps are integral parts of spreader beam assemblies. They help lift heavy loads without putting unnecessary stress on the object being moved. We offer plenty of steel end caps, ranging from 3 inches to 32 inches in diameter, each with different weight capacities to suit your needs. You can also use your own locally sourced pipe, which cuts down on transportation costs and gives you the flexibility to customize your spreader beam lengths.

Steel vs. Aluminum End Caps

Tandemloc offers both steel and aluminum end caps, each suited for different projects. Steel end caps, like the AC25C Series, are built for tough and heavy-duty lifts. These end caps handle large loads, meet standards like ASME B30.20 and BTH-1, and make up the majority of our end cap sales.

For projects where weight is a concern or corrosion resistance is preferred, aluminum end caps are a good choice. The AQ31A Series aluminum end caps are lightweight but still strong, and work well for specialized industries like aerospace. Aluminum end caps fit on the outside of aluminum pipe, whereas steel end caps are inserted inside of steel pipes.

Customizable Lengths and Versatility

One of the main benefits of Tandemloc’s end caps is how customizable they are. You can choose to either use your own pipe, or buy pre-cut pipe directly from Tandemloc. If you're using steel end caps like the AC25C Series, the AC22P Series Spreader Pipe is a great fit. For aluminum end caps like the AQ31A Series, the AQ31P Series Aluminum Spreader Pipe works best to create a lightweight, yet strong system.

We also offer corresponding Telescopic Pipe Kits for end caps, such as the AC22T Series (for steel). These kits let you adjust the spreader beam length in the field so that it’s easier to adapt to different lifting needs or job site conditions.

Tandemloc also provides Pipe Sleeves like the AG08A00 Series and Center Lift Pipe Sleeves like the AG08ALP Series to splice pipes together – more options for complicated lifting tasks.

Using Tandemloc’s End Cap App

Tandemloc has our very own ‘End Cap App’ to help you pick the right end caps based on span, capacity, and sling angle. The app provides useful details like part numbers, weights, and the right pipe lengths. It also helps you evaluate fixed and telescopic end cap sets.

When choosing the right pipe for your spreader beam, it’s important to account for “loss length.” This is the distance between the lifting holes on the end cap and the pipe itself. Our app helps you calculate this, so you can be sure that you’re using the right pipe length for your setup.

Safety and Proof Testing

Tandemloc takes safety very seriously. While you’re free to use your own pipe, we proof-test all of our end caps and telescopic pipe kits to ensure they meet strict safety standards. You can rely on our end caps to perform as expected when lifting heavy loads.
